Three Types of People

Embracing Wisdom in God's World

Introduction

Welcome, Bridge Family! Today, we dive into the final message of our two-week series on wisdom. This series, initially planned for three weeks, was shortened due to unforeseen circumstances, but the lessons remain impactful. Our focus today is on understanding and embracing wisdom as we navigate life in God's world, God's way.

The Call to Be Different

Living as Aliens in This World

Drawing inspiration from 1 Peter, we are reminded that as followers of Christ, we are called to live as aliens in this world. This means walking differently, going against the cultural flow, and living for Jesus. Our student camp this week emphasized this theme, encouraging students to renew their love for Jesus and align their lives more closely with His teachings.

The Importance of Community and Service

Our church community has been actively involved in various initiatives, such as the Sole
Loved shoe drive and the upcoming men's breakfast. These activities not only foster fellowship but also provide opportunities to serve and make a difference in the lives of others.

Understanding Wisdom
What is Wisdom?
Wisdom is defined as living in God's world, God's way. It involves making choices that align with God's teachings and principles. This concept is beautifully encapsulated in the question: "In light of my past experience, my present circumstances, and my future hopes and dreams, what is the wise thing to do?"

The Simple, the Fool, and the Mocker
Proverbs categorizes people into three groups based on their approach to wisdom: the simple, the fool, and the mocker.

The Simple: The simple are often naive and lack experience. They are not necessarily bad or evil but are unaware of the consequences of their actions. Proverbs 14:15 states, "The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps." Simpleness can be corrected with time and instruction, emphasizing the importance of seeking wisdom and learning from experiences.

The Fool: The fool knows what is wise but chooses to ignore it. They are often wise in their own eyes, stubborn, and easily offended. Proverbs 12:15 says, "The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice." Fools often repeat their mistakes, showing a lack of willingness to change or seek help.

The Mocker: The mocker, or scoffer, is the most extreme. They not only reject wisdom but also mock those who choose to follow it. Proverbs 21:24 describes mockers as proud and haughty, acting with boundless arrogance. Engaging with mockers often leads to insults and abuse, making it challenging to correct their ways.

The Invitation to Wisdom

Repentance and Turning to God

The key to embracing wisdom is repentance. Proverbs 1:23 invites us to "repent at my rebuke," promising that God will pour out His thoughts and make known His teachings. This act of turning away from our foolish ways and aligning ourselves with God's wisdom is crucial for living a fulfilling life.

The Fear of the Lord

Proverbs 9:10 states, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." This fear is not about being scared but about being in awe of God's greatness and submitting to His authority. Recognizing God as the creator and sustainer of life helps us to live wisely in His world.

Life Application

Applying Wisdom in Daily Life

As we reflect on today's message, let's consider how we can apply wisdom in our daily lives. Here are a few questions to ponder:
  1. **Self-Evaluation**: Are there areas in my life where I am acting simply, foolishly, or mockingly? How can I seek wisdom in these areas?
  2. **Seeking Advice**: Am I open to receiving advice and correction from others, or do I often think I know best?
  3. **Repentance**: Are there actions or attitudes I need to repent of to align my life more closely with God's ways?

Challenge for the Week
This week, I challenge you to identify one area in your life where you can make a wiser choice. Whether it's in your relationships, work, or personal habits, seek God's guidance and make a conscious effort to live in His world, His way.

Conclusion
Embracing wisdom is a journey that requires self-reflection, humility, and a willingness to change. By living in God's world, God's way, we can experience the fullness of life that He intends for us. Let's commit to seeking wisdom and following Jesus more closely each day.
May God bless you as you strive to live wisely in His world.
